It is very easy to get confused and make mistakes in the daily skincare routine. Whether it is because of not knowing what type of skin you have, because of confusion generated by the marketing of different products, or simply because you are not familiar with the subject, these mistakes, instead of generating benefits, end up causing the opposite: dehydrated skin, irritated and troubled.
To learn about them and avoid them, we have compiled the most common errors, helping to identify them and how to solve them.
1.- Protect yourself from the sun only in the summer months: Very typical. We know very well how harmful it can be not to protect yourself from the sun. The skin has memory and all the solar rays that we accumulate throughout our lives will appear at one time or another in the form of spots or premature ageing. On rainy, snowy or foggy days, for example, you should also put on sunscreen.
2 – Use makeup remover wipes every night. How comfortable they are! But they are not the best option to clean the skin. It will only take one more minute to do the step correctly and remove the makeup with the double cleansing method. Your skin will thank you for life.
The basic level of the double cleansing at night consists of the same as the day but adding the extra step of the first cleanser since our skin accumulates toxins throughout the day. This consists of Double cleansing, first with make-up remover or cleansing oil, in balm or oil format, and then using a water-based cleanser, such as foams or gels. Then add the toner, followed by the serum or mask, and finally the moisturiser.
3.- Do not do the double cleaning if you are not wearing makeup: It is only one more minute and the difference between doing it and not doing it is abysmal. Even if you don’t wear makeup, the first step of cleansing is to remove any remaining oil from the skin. The best thing to remove it is an oil-based cleanser.
4.- Apply the products by rubbing the skin too much: No more rubbing the skin, it will be cleaner. The only thing you will achieve is to irritate it and make it red. There is a way to apply products with a liquid texture that is much more beneficial for your skin: pour a little product on the palm of your hand and heat it by bringing both hands together. Then, gently press with the palm of your hands on the surface of the face.
5.- Use mechanical exfoliants on sensitive or acne-prone skin: Exfoliants cleanse the skin in-depth, but if you have very sensitive skin or acne, you should avoid mechanical exfoliants (those that contain solid particles). If you have acne, the only thing you will do is attack the surface of the skin and consequently, it will be easier for it to become infected.
6.- Not storing the products in a suitable place: Heat, light or humidity, for example, are factors that can affect the composition of the products. For example, vitamin C is oxidised by light and has no effect. High temperatures also affect the condition of the products. You have to find a safe storage place to keep your properties.
